THE NSBE MISSION

"To increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed proffesionally, and positively impact the community."

Our History

The Formation of NSBE

Back in 1974, six Purdue Engineering students and their professors established the first chapter of the Society of Black Engineers. Two years later, in 1976, the Purdue students and thirty-two other schools held the first annual meeting, which ultimately led to the official formation of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE). NSBE is a community that brings together Black students and professionals in STEM fields. It is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that has helped thousands of Black STEM students and professionals achieve their career dreams. As Howard University is the first HBCU to have an Engineering school, our chapter is proud to be a part of its strong legacy, and we aim to continue strengthening this legacy.
